Habits: the new cars to your wishful destination
There are two kinds of habits. One that we do everyday - having meals, brushing the teeth and sleeping x hours everyday. We do them without overthinking it. Then there are other ‘habits’ we start because of an overnight inspiration or a pep talk we listened to on YouTube. But motivation of this kind rarely lasts long - unless it is coupled with discipline. So within a few days or weeks, our newly found habits gradually disappear from our lives for the foreseeable future.
Do you see the problem with the second kind of habits? They lack purpose.
Why trouble yourself with new habits?
To answer this question, think of all the things you wish to achieve - which are way beyond your comfort zone. Perhaps you dream of becoming a brilliant public speaker. Or you want to become wealthy. Or start a business. Or learn something exciting.
What is that wishful thinking in your head that you think is near impossible? (But it’ll be nice to have..)
The habits that we spoke of make the impossible, possible.
Everyone of us has wishful thinking. But not many have the confidence to act upon it. But once you decide to go for it, habits are the car to your destination. I’m using a simple logic here - if getting fitter is your aim (destination), you should exercise and have healthy meals (habits).
That’s it. Have a road map, define your habits based on your road map and be consistent. Habits can take you to places only visited by your wishful thinking.
Check the image below (Bear with me on my art).
Do you see the road above in the diagram? The journey is uphill, one that requires commitment. Similarly, habits can start with motivation - but they stay only when you have the direction in mind and you commit to it with discipline.
Even when you commit to it with discipline, you may not see the results of your newly formed habits in weeks. It is going to take time. You may feel like all your efforts are futile. But as you keep working on your new habits everyday, they compound. Slowly but surely. And you know what happens when something compounds.

And just like that, you will have worked your way towards the wishful destination.
